A few notes for modelers...

Being built in small numbers and with only a few pics available today (most of not good quality), with only a section of the real aircraft still existing, there are lots of doubts about details and colors of the Re 2005.

I didn't buy all the available references, I mostly used these ones:

- Ali D'Italia Series No.16: Re.2005, by Gregory Alegi
- Monografie Aeronautiche Italiane No.66
- Aviazione Giovani No.45
- Airkit News No.7
- Reggiane, by Delta Editrice.
- Notiziario CMPR 1/93

The best drawings available of the Sagittario are those included in the first reference book.
However, matching them to the pics, I noticed a few mistakes:
- Tail trim actuator is not present on both sides as in drawings but only at left on the real aircraft.
- The upper metal shrouds surrounding the engine exausts on the left side of aircraft is larger then the one on the
right (they are the same size in the drawings). Possibly it was to avoid gas to enter the supercharger intake.
- The two small indicators of gear in lowered position are missing from all drawings.
- A series of "holes" are missing from the inner area of both flaps. They are instead on the real aicraft.

As about colors, there are still many issues about markings and camouflage.
To my eye, is not confirmed if the lower side of engine cowling was all green or had a small portion of Grigio Azzurro Chiaro (Light Azure Gray) along the centerline.
All the pics I've seen are too dark to tell.
The best I know of is this one:

and I think it shows the cowling is
green overall.

It is to be noticed that color profiles and drawings that show this area gray, are wrong in other areas, like the color of tail gear doors (which was gray, telling that the lower rear fuselage was gray as well and not green).
This detail instead  is easy to be seen in pics.

Again to my eye, the "Sagittario" insignia on the tail had a surround to the white lettering and arrow, most possibly red. I did my model this way.
About the interiors, there are 2 sets of pics of the cockpit, both black/white, showing some minor differences.
I painted my interiors Verde Anticorrosione, following the 'main stream'. However, I'm quite confident that cockpit and gear well were aluminium. Light reflection in the pics looks different then that of painted areas.

Apart from my doubt about the gray or green lower cowling (which could be solved by pics I've never seen yet but that could be in books I don't own), all the other issues seem hard to solve. No color pics exist and many if not all the Men who handled the Sagittario are now gone for ever....

Anyway, I most pleased with my 'puzzle' model, a puzzle in which the larger piece has been patience and work (about 250 hours).

Thanks for looking!
